Virtualising SAP Sybase ASE - Tips, Tricks and Best Practices

Many of you have requested a session on virtualisation.  For those of you that were unable to attend Chris Brown’s presentation at TechSelect last November, Darrell Gosden a Principal Consultant with SAP Global Database Services has offered to represent this overview of SAP Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (SAP Sybase ASE) running in a VMware environment at a lunch time special interest group (SIG) meeting.

If you are looking to virtualize Sybase products – specifically SAP Sybase ASE, and you have questions about the operational management or performance of SAP Sybase running in virtualized environments – this SIG will be of interest to you.

Darrell will talk about VMware's ESXi product suite, as well as SAP Sybase ASE, and how to configure them to work together optimally so that you can achieve as close to bare-metal performance as possible. He will also compare benchmarks of SAP Sybase ASE running bare-metal and virtualized (the difference in performance may just surprise you!) and provide an overview of VMware's VMotion and HA products.

Time permitting, Darrell will then host an open discussion on the general subject of virtualization and provide you with any “breaking news” on the latest SAP Sybase ASE benchmarks currently being carried out by VMware and SAP Sybase ASE engineering.
