Keynote Address - Re-imagining the Future of your Business; The Real Time Enterprise

Presenter:
Irfan Khan

The Real-time enterprise is a concept which enables organisations in today’s rapidly changing global economy, to learn about their business and to act while the data is in motion,  no matter the volume of information, nor the velocity at which that data is either created or consumed - providing a competitive edge and enabling the organisation to proactively manage unexpected situations - ensuring business agility and responsiveness. IDC states that over the past decade, enterprises worldwide have spent more than $1 trillion building and managing systems to automate core business processes, outsourced processes as well as building extensive value chains. The result of these developments is added complexity which forces organisations to 'integrate the integrators'. A Real Time Enterprise has the ability to seamlessly leverage all relevant information, both within an organization as well as externally, to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of business processes in their business networks.

This session will explain the technological underpinnings of SAP HANA, how it underpins SAP’s Real Time Data Platform, describe the features delivered, and discuss the usage scenarios for customers to adopt and deploy SAP HANA. This session targets modelers, system admins, developers, DBAs, security, and project leads. Application and customer scenarios will be used to demonstrate.

Enabling migration of SQL code from non-SAP to Sybase databases

Presenter:
Rob Verschoor, Technical Director SAP Global Database Solutions

There is broad interest from SAP customers in migrating custom applications (i.e. non-SAP applications) to SAP Sybase. SAP is building specialised tooling to assist in migrating server-side SQL objects, which is typically the most challenging part of a cross-database migration. This presentation looks at common aspects, challenges and success factors of such migrations, and will look at some examples from actual migrations.

SAP Sybase IQ16 Scale out from Simplex, through Multiplex and into Distributed Query Processing and how to monitor the whole system

Presenter:
Richard Soundy, Director of Business Development, SAP

SAP Sybase IQ16 now can move systems, seamlessly from a single system (Simplex) through to a multimode solution (Multiplex).  In IQ16 Multiplex queries can be distributed across nodes providing MPP query speeds.  This architecture brings new issues with monitoring and control.  This session not only covers the architecture, but also the features to aid in the administration and monitoring of the IQ16 environment.

Real Time Applications powered by SAP HANA - Value and Road Map

Presenter:
Si-Mohamed Said, VP Head, Database & Technology for Lines of Business and Industries D&T Marketing

In this session, you will gain insight into a new breed of innovative, real-time applications powered by the SAP HANA platform. During this session, we will cover the business and IT value, the road map of SAP HANA apps and demonstrate how they can help transform organizations by enabling a smarter workforce empowered to react more quickly to events. We will also explain how SAP HANA apps help customers extend their SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA investments and cover the various deployment options of these applications.

SAP Support - Common Reported Problems (TS 2013)

Presenter:
Bart van Kuijk & Niclas Andersson

Customer Servcies and support will discuss some of the more frequent problems that they are seeing and share tips and tricks for solving them.

Tuning SAP Sybase ASE Spinlock in Modern Day xOLTP System on IBM P7

Presenter:
Peter Thawley, VP, Global Database Solutions and Enterprise Systems Group, SAP

MOR is a major customer in China. They have adopted Sybase products for over 15 years – Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE), Replication Server, Open Server, etc. Over 100 ASE servers have been installed to support their ticketing system in China. Serving over 3 million tickets per day, it is one of the busiest transactional systems in the world. To challenge the next 15 years of China population and railroad expansion, MOR acquires IBM P780 system which can support up to 128 CPU. With the high number of CPUs, modern-day high speed OLTP systems will need to handle spinlock gracefully in order to achieve linear scale up performance.

SAP Sybase IQ In-Memory Real-Time store for concurrent Loading

Presenter:
Richard Soundy, Director of Business Development, SAP

SAP Sybase IQ 16.0 introduces a new in-memory row-level versioning (RLV) store which enables a new class of applications that support concurrent writes and continuous loading to a single table. RLV store is a new high-performance and in-memory columnar store built on top of the legendary columnar store. This session will introduce RLV store and provide an overview of the technology as well as show users how to set up an SAP Sybase IQ database to use RLV store.

Event Stream Processing – Introduction to Continuous Queries

Presenter:
Keith Oakeshott, Principle Systems Consultant, SAP

In this session, we will take a close look at how to define and run continuous queries using the SAP Sybase Event Stream Processor (SAP Sybase ESP). Continuous queries are at the heart of complex event processing (CEP), allowing you to apply business logic to streams of event data in real time, to monitor trends, watch for patterns, and in general, to understand what's going on in a fast-moving environment. This session will demonstrate the tools used to build continuous queries, as well as the event process language used in SAP Sybase ESP.

Query Performance Analysis & Tuning

Presenter:
Peter Thawley, VP, Global Database Solutions and Enterprise Systems Group, SAP

This in depth session will help customers understand and diagnose query processing performance. Included will be a description of various tools and techniques to help performance analysis such as HTML-based showplan and statistics, text-based showplan, etc.

Big Data and the Real-Time Data Platform Including SAP HANA and Apache Hadoop

Presenter:
TBC

"Big Data" is a big buzzword these days – but it's not just hype. This session will define Big Data both in terms of high-level concepts and specific technical challenges. Find out why IT professionals are talking about Big Data and learn how SAP Real-Time Data Platform provides the full range of capabilities you need to handle Big Data scenarios using technologies like SAP HANA, Apache Hadoop, and more. In this session, you will receive practical guidance about the strengths and limitations of the various components, how they work together in SAP Real-Time Data Platform, and how SAP helps you deliver all that into the enterprise landscape.

SAP HANA Theory & Architecture

Presenter:
Henry Cook, Principal Consultant HANA Centre of Excellence EMEA

During this session Henry will take delegates through the internal workings of SAP HANA pointing out particularly interesting features, including the cache optimisation techniques which distinguish this product from others; Henry will discuss why SAP HANA should not be seen as an alternative to pre-existing parallel processing machines but rather builds on the techniques pioneered by them. Similarly he’ll then discuss the enhancing and enlargement of the SAP HANA Platform to include the disk based column store and streaming software we are already familiar with. He’ll also illustrate the technology with examples of emerging financial services industry use cases.

Tips, Tricks & Little-Known Features in ASE

Understanding SAP Sybase IQ Query Execution and Graphical Query Plans

Presenter:
Richard Soundy, Director of Business Development, SAP

This session will focus on SAP Sybase IQ query execution and query plans. The session first focuses on how the query optimizer evaluates a query using the statistics provided by IQ indexes and generates a query execution plan. The remainder of the session will show you how to obtain and interpret a graphical query plan. The session will cover the different types of join and aggregation algorithms. Also covered will be tuning aspects using several database options to get faster query execution. Query plans generated in a multiple environment involving distributed query processing (DQP) execution will also be covered.
